Sophie Richard is an independent art historian and writer based in
London. She was educated at the Ecole du Louvre
and the Sorbonne, Paris.
A regular visitor to Japan for the past 15 years, she has
been researching the country’s art museums over the
last decade. Her books and articles on the subject
have been published in the West and in Japan. In
2015 she received the Commissioner’s Award from
the Agency of Cultural Aairs, Government of Japan.
She has been a regular contributor to Japanese
tele-vision programs about the country’s museums,
and in 2018 and 2019 her work was the basis for two
television series on the subject.
